Our Story

Our story · Since 1917

Begun in wartime,
carried by hand

Three generations of one family, a single craft, and a promise that has never changed: a leather jacket should be made entirely by hand, sourced ethically, and worn for a lifetime.

A craft born of necessity

Emilio Moretti began in 1917, when the founders' grandfathers stitched their first jackets in the difficult years of the war. They had little — but they had their hands, and a refusal to make anything that would not last.

A century later, almost nothing has changed. Every jacket is still cut from a single hide and finished by one artisan, from the first cut to the last stitch. We have never chased a season. We make one thing, and we make it to outlive trends — and very nearly its owner.

Three generations

1917

The first stitches

In the lean years of the war, the founders' grandfathers cut and sewed the first Emilio Moretti jackets by lamplight — out of necessity, then out of love for the craft.

1970s

A name, a workshop

The family workshop takes the Moretti name. Word spreads: a jacket made entirely by hand, from a single hide, that only grows better with the years.

1990s

The second generation

The founders' children refine the patterns and broaden the house — tailored pieces for both men and women, the same hands, the same patience.

Today

Three generations on

The third generation leads the atelier. Still hand-cut. Still hand-stitched. Still repaired, for free, for as long as you wear it.

Our ethics

No animal is ever killed for our leather

This is the heart of our house. We work exclusively with hides from animals that have already died of natural causes. Nothing we make asks for an animal's life — only that what remains is treated with respect: tanned slowly, cut carefully, and made into something meant to last for decades.

Naturally sourced

Only hides from animals that died naturally — never killed for the product.

Slowly tanned

Vegetable-tanned over weeks. No rushed chemistry, no shortcuts.

Made to last

Repaired for life. A jacket you keep is the most ethical jacket of all.

The craft

How a jacket is made

01

Selection

Hides are chosen by hand for grain, weight and temper. One jacket, one hide.

02

Cutting

A single artisan cuts every panel from one hide so the jacket ages as one.

03

Stitching

Hand-stitched on machines we have used for decades, with hand-finished seams.

04

Finishing

Hardware set by hand, a final conditioning, and a lifetime of free repairs.
